A Black Bouquet
Black Flowers. Alive, vibrant and beautiful—as a single stem or part of an arrangement. This personal project questions the existence of black flowers through capturing #blackjoy, uniqueness and both the ordinary and extraordinariness of everyday black humans (flowers). Quietly observing the strength, delicateness, natural beauty and the very intentional care needed for them to grow and thrive—gathered together for this portrait series to create #ablackbouquet
Being a part of these commUNITY photoshoots allow people to engage in a way they may not have before. Exploring areas of their homes and each other. Coming together as a larger bouquet to learn more about what’s going on, what’s needed, how we can help water each other, and what we have budding and blooming as individuals.
This project will feature community members in Baltimore, as they are, showing our diversity and how beauty can grow from anywhere despite the conditions and even in what some might consider the most unlikely places. A “Black Bouquet” book is currently in progress. Stay tuned to help support and purchase.
NOTE: This is a very personal project that is very specifically meant to highlight black subjects. However, ANYONE can contribute, donate and even have their images taken (to help raise money for supplies). I highly encourage non-black identifying people in the commUNITY to sign up for the “Bloom” portrait session or sponsor a portrait. It’s all LOVE.
